Is Fatigue Stealing Your Happiness? 9 Possible Reasons Why You’re Tired All The Time

Everyone experiences fatigue from time-to-time. We’re not made to go go go like so many of us do in today’s world. Fatigue is a big issue that greatly impacts quality of life. When you’re tired all the time, it can rob you of your happiness.

Sometimes the reason why we’re tired is obvious but other times it can be hidden. If you’re fatigued all the time, but you’re not exactly sure why, read about these 9 common reasons why you might be tired. You owe it to yourself to get to the bottom of your fatigue and live a more fulfilled life with greater happiness.

Is Fatigue Stealing Your Happiness 9 Possible Reasons Why You're Tired All The Time ~1. You are depressed.

Clinical depression is more than feeling down every now and then. Rather, it is a condition categorized by mental gloom or hopelessness leaving you unable to see any brightness in your future, or even any sense of future at all. Clinical depression can be triggered by a number of things or it can appear without external cause. In either case, it results in chronic fatigue and a feeling of being tired all the time.

2. You have a thyroid imbalance.

Hypothyroid can leave you feeling entirely depleted, lacking the vibrancy and energy to carry on with the day’s activity. Morning coffee is of no help. Hypothyroid will cause you to feel wiped and without energy. If you’re tired all the time, but you’re not sure why, go have your thyroid levels checked to see whether a thyroid imbalance is causing your fatigue.

3. You’re not getting enough sleep.

One of the most difficult aspects of successful living in today’s fast-paced world is that most of us don’t get enough sleep. We have far too many responsibilities today causing us to spend too many hours away from home. Insomnia is rampant these days.

Most people need more sleep than they realize – at least 7 – 9 hours with 7 being the absolute minimum. Further, your sleep should be consecutive.  Sleeping for only 5 hours per night and taking a 2 hour nap in the middle of the day, is not sufficient.

In addition to getting plenty of sleep, relaxation and meditation each day is a powerful tool to reduce physiological stresses allowing 2 things to happen: 1) You will be more likely to fall into a restful sound sleep after doing 20 minutes of relaxation each evening and 2) If your schedule is so horrendous that you don’t have time on a given day for the recommended 7-9 hours of sleep, a 20 minute meditation can restore your stamina to a more healthy level.

4. You have an untreated autoimmune condition.

Fatigue is common amongst most autoimmune conditions. While they can be difficult to diagnose, autoimmune conditions leave you feeling depleted. Autoimmune disorders happen when your body turns against itself. If you live in a state of chronic fatigue, talk to your doctor to see if you have an autoimmune condition. Two great resources on autoimmune disease are:

5. You have adrenal fatigue.

Adrenal fatigue, like it’s milder counterpart of adrenal insufficiency, is often accompanied by other symptoms in addition to feeling tired, such as weight gain around the middle, cravings salty or sweet foods, irritability and a brain fog during the day. Stress reduction is a must in the case of adrenal fatigue. Dietary changes can really help as well in addition to various supplements. For the nutritional support needed a great resource is: The Adrenal Reset Diet: Strategically Cycle Carbs and Proteins to Lose Weight, Balance Hormones, and Move from Stressed to Thriving.

6. You have toxic relationships.

Toxic relationships will no doubt make you feel tired. Whether it is a family member, a relationship or a co-worker, toxic relationships will drain the life out of you. Evaluate your relationships to see if this could be the cause of your fatigue. If so, you need to figure out whether it is worth having this person (people) in your life.

7. You are under stress regularly.

Stress is so common that we often fail to realize that living in a state of regular stress is not normal. If you are constantly tired then a serious evaluation of what you can do to reduce stress in your life is warranted. Stress reduction will look different for different people. It may mean reducing your activities. It may mean incorporating more time for play and leisure. It may mean big things like changing jobs or ending certain relationships. If you are under regular stress it is imperative that you figure out what reducing stress looks like for you.

8. You have a nutritional deficiency.

Oftentimes a nutritional deficiency will present itself in the form of fatigue. The most common culprits are vitamin B and D. If you are regularly fatigued, have both your Vitamin D and B levels checked to see if you are optimal. Likewise, since other deficiencies can cause fatigue a full panel of vitamin levels is a good idea.

9. Your environments are cluttered.

Living in an environment of too much “stuff” can really drain your energy. If this is you, consider simplifying your environments. Keep up with the stuff you have and take the time throughout the day to keep your environment tidy so that it doesn’t become an overwhelming task. See The Joy of Less, A Minimalist Living Guide: How to Declutter, Organize, and Simplify Your Life.
